Become a foster carer - make a difference
Many different people become carers. You can be a couple or single. The main qualities we look for in carers are a genuine interest in children and a willingness to have the child’s best interests at heart.
What is expected of foster carers?
Wesley Dalmar foster carers are able to demonstrate the following abilities:
- Use their own experiences of raising children to help with the tasks of fostering,
- Provide good quality day to day care for children and respect the Code of Conduct for Authorised Carers,
- Provide a safe environment that is free from abuse,
- Work as part of a team with case managers to support the children in their care,
- Promote the positive development of children and young people in foster care,
- Help children to build positive ongoing relationships with their natural family and a sense of identity and culture,
- Be engaged in on-going training and personal development.

- Regular visits from a professional case manager
- 24 hour on-call service to support consultation with experts in the management of difficult behaviours
