About us
The Bega Valley Suicide Prevention Action Network (SPAN) is a community-based committee that works to reduce the impact of suicide in the Bega Valley. We plan to hold workshops to increase the community’s early intervention skills and, by raising awareness of the issue, we also hope to eliminate the stigma associated with suicide.
Our activities
Bega Valley SPAN, in partnership with the South Coast Local Area Command and Pambula CWA, is developing a post and prevention pack to be distributed by Police and other emergency services to families and friends at a time of crisis.
We have also developed unobtrusive pocket-size Crisis Community Information Cards with local and national suicide- related support phone numbers, and details of websites and support organisations.
The Crisis Community Information Cards will be distributed at various locations in the shire (please contact us if you would like some for your workplace or community group).
Local Suicide Bereavement Support Group
These groups organise guest speakers on matters related to mental health and suicide prevention to help educate the community that depression and suicide can affect anyone at any time. This education offers practical ways for individuals in the community to assist those in crisis and show them how to get help.
In partnership with other organisations, groups can also support community awareness and education seminars to develop skills in suicide prevention.
Latest events
