Wesley Mission wins three national awards
07 September 2010
Wesley Mission has won three major awards from the Australasian Religious Press Association for excellence in religious journalism.
The 2010 awards attracted a record 401 entries from 180 organisations across Australia and New Zealand and were judged by some of Australia’s leading mainstream journalists and academics.
Impact magazine won a gold award for Best Headline ‘Till debt do us part’ (Dinoo Kelleghan) which featured in the Winter 2009 edition; Wesley Mission’s Public Affairs Manager Graeme Cole won gold for Best News Release for ‘Paying the price: school bullying leaves adults out in the cold’ while Impact magazine was awarded a silver award for Best Layout (artists David Beattie and Marcelo Canizares) building on their prizes from last year.
The best news release category has now been won by Wesley Mission four out of the past five years. It is Graeme Cole’s 14th ARPA award.
The awards were presented by the former Federal Minister for Justice the Rev Professor Michael Tate at ARPA’s national conference in Hobart.
“The awards are confirmation that Wesley Mission continues to produce high quality writing, editing and layouts/designs,” said Wesley Mission’s Public Affairs and Research Manager, Graeme Cole.
“They are also an acknowledgement of the empathy and creativity we bring to our work and an understanding of our target groups. Communicating with the church or mainstream audience needs professionalism, passion and sometimes a dash of humour.”
