Real Story - Thomas

Tomorrow

ThomasThe odds were stacked against Thomas – no home, no job, shocking memories from his war-ravaged homeland, all contributing to growing mental health problems. Yet despite the obstacles, early diagnosis and treatment of his problems have helped Thomas start thinking about, not the past, but the future.

Thomas, a refugee from Burundi, first appeared on Wesley Mission’s radar when he came to Edward Eagar Lodge looking for temporary accommodation. Wesley Mission’s Community Housing scheme then found him a more long-term place to live and this gave him the breathing space to help sort through some of his problems and try to plan a future.

Wesley Mission’s community support workers continue to play a vital part: “It’s incredible what they did. They would say that they're just doing their jobs but the way I see it, it's more. It's caring, and that's something that is very important for me, especially in my situation with no family,” says Thomas.
